Do you really expect Apple to stand still with software or hardware development? If they did Apple would have ceased to exist as a going concern a long time ago, relegating your Mac to permanent obsolescence, the Amiga of the computer world, a footnote you can look up on your Windows PC-which without any competition will still be running XP. Characterizing the inability to install an operating system nine years after the hardware was built much less designed as "built-in obsolescence" strains credulity. I still believe, that I'm experiencing the built in obsolescence that Apple's so famous for. Apple still provide security updates for it, the latest one having been delivered five days ago. You said yourself that it has a lot more life in it, and you're right. There is nothing wrong with a 2009 MacBook Pro or El Capitan.
